Dear Dave,
Do you remember when we found out I was pregnant? It was a Friday night last June and we had just got in from work. We had our 'Friday night routine' of ordering takeaway and watching The OC until 2 in the morning (how cool were we?!). But I had been feeling a little under the weather for a few days and didn't feel like Pizza (SO not like me!). In fact, I had been feeling unwell for a little while now...
Because I was on a pill which stopped my periods, I always had a spare pregnancy test lying about just to put my mind at rest every few months (me being paranoid). So you put some diner in the oven and I snuck into the bathroom to take the test. After 3 minutes I looked at the test and was VERY confused. There were 2 lines, but one was very faint. I just couldn't be sure, but in my heart I knew I was pregnant. It wasn't planned so I was a little unsure of how you would react.Your face when I told you was HILARIOUS. Shock, happiness, confusion until eventually you decided it couldn't be true. So we went to Tesco and bought 12 tests (yes. 12) and sure enough they were all positive!
We spent the pregnancy talking about how great it was going to be being parents. All the things we would do, places we would take her! But nothing could have prepared us for how hard parenthood was really going to be. The hardest part is not having time to spend together, or not like we used to. We've had our arguments, snapped at each other when we're tired and said things we both didn't mean. But we've also had some of the best days of our lives together! The first time Alice smiled, or the time she pooed all up the wall! Haha! Good times.
They don't lie when they say being a parent is the hardest job in world. But I just want to say that you really are the best dad Alice could ever ask for! When I see you two together it makes me feel so happy and proud to be a part of your lives. So thank you for being such an amazing dad to Alice and an amazing fiancée to me! We love you so much!
Love,
Emma and Alice
