A trip to the River

Saturday, May 11, 2013

Last Saturday afternoon, Dave and I dropped Alice off at my parents. She was going to stay the whole night, which meant that we had the whole afternoon and evening to ourselves! For the first time in over a year.

After dropping her off, we got into our car, sat down, turned on the engine and then looked at each other. We were lost. Out of our comfort zone with absolutely no idea what to do with this time. We were absolutely determined not to waste a second of it. It had been ages since we had any time to spend together so we really wanted to do the things we just can't do anymore with a little toddler to care for. Like... walking by the river and stopped for a bite to eat (Alice would last 5 seconds in the buggy before screaming to get out and chase the boats!), browsing the flower stalls, checking out the farmers markets and... just browsing around with no real direction or time constraints! It's amazing how structured you need to be when you have children around, I guess it's because all of your attention is focussed on their needs. What they need, want, are doing!

I have to say, this weekend was amazing. After wondering around the river, we hit the shops at Westfield, grabbed a takeaway on the way home and watched an entire episode of BGT without being disturbed once! But I have to say the best part was going to bed and not being woken up ONCE before 10am. Best night ever.

  1. It's so easy to take things like this for granted when you don't have kids - glad you had such a good time :) xx

  3. I'm glad you both were able to get away for some adult R&R! :) that looks like a charming little market! I love to visit farmers markets or cities that have little markets like that. It makes me feel like I'm in a romantic movie or something.
