Tough Days- How to cope!

Wednesday, May 11, 2016

Don't get me wrong, I love being a stay at home mum. There's nothing better than seeing your children grow up before your eyes and knowing you were there for all those little tiny changes. Some days, however, can feel like a living nightmare. Tantrums, no breaks, no privacy and no second to think. It's hard. And no matter what I try to do to avoid it, sometimes I just completely overwhelmed. hate myself for shouting, or losing control, or wishing the time away till bedtime. But I like to think I'm getting better at turning days around and that just because a day starts badly, doesn't mean it has to end badly.

My biggest advice to anyone having a bad day with the kids, is to write it off. Whatever you were trying to achieve, stop. Forget it. It ain't happening, so move on. Get down with the kids and play. It doesn't matter what you play, just play. Most of the time I find my kids were just lacking attention from me and a little mummy play time is all they needed. Throw out the dinner plans and order in, or make a second lunch (sandwiches and snacks!). Forget the cleaning, leave the dishes, put down the phone and just focus on the kids.

Basically, write off that day until they are in bed! Not only will you feel so much better for not neglecting them or just shouting the whole day, but you may actually turn the day round!
