Autumn Scooting

Monday, October 17, 2016

This may not seem like a big deal, but at the weekend we changed Thomas's little seated scooter into a proper scooter. I was worried he wouldn't really know what to do, and fall flat on his face. But he surprised us all and just scooted off with Alice, as if he'd done it a million times before.

But he hadn't. It was his first time. And he was completely ready for it. And it made me think about all the things kids are just... ready for in their own time. I feel like as parents, we are desperate to push our children into the next stage of their development. To sit them on a potty when they don't even know how to pronounce it properly. To tear away their dummy because we feel their too old for one. But you know what, kids are just ready when their ready. You can push and pull them all you want, force them into that little mould you've made for them, but there is so much to be said for simply sitting back and waiting for them to be ready on their own.

I have to say, I am enjoying not having to do any school runs! The last couple of weeks have been cold and rainy, and as much as it's stressful having them both with me all day every day, I actually quite enjoy the laziness of being able to do what we want, when we want!

That being said, I do hope a school comes up for her by January! xx
