While we were on the Isle of Wight, we decided to try something new and rent out some bikes for the day. We were based right next to the Red Squirrel Trail which runs along an old railway line. Most of the ride was completely off road and took us through incredible countryside views and all the way through Shanklin up to Godshill, a gorgeous little old village with chocolate box cottages!
Tommy has been on a balance bike for about a year now. We tried the whole stabilisers thing with Alice and found that when it came to taking them off, it was really difficult for her to get balanced. So we skipped it with Tom and put him onto a balance bike. We bought him a Spiderman pedal bike about 8 months ago and he has completely refused to pedal it.
However, we knew he could do it and so with a little persuading, we rented him a little pedal bike with no stabilisers. He was a little wobbly at first, but after only about 10 minutes, he had it down! I can't believe how much easier the transition was from balance bike to pedal bike, and not a stabiliser in sight! He was pretty proud of himself as he had only just turned 4 and I don't think anyone else in his class can ride a bike yet!
We have definitely been bitten by the cycling bug and are so excited for some Autumn bike riding adventures! Especially as we are massively cutting back on spending for a pretty exciting purchase coming next year. 7 years of saving, 2 kids later and we are finally almost in a position to buy. Obvious, London is not the cheapest of places to buy in, but it's our home and we refuse to be kicked out. Wish us luck, I can't stop looking at RightMove!! Haha!
Lots of pictures below :)
I'm a 60 year old first time grandad, been a blogger for many years, but never thought in a million years that I would comment on a mommy blog. But I saw the photo and remembered how my dad (82 and still kicking) told me recently about when he put me on the bike for the first time. I did that also for my son and now I have a one year old granddaughter and another on the way in about a week.
ReplyDeleteI just hope they will be as healthy and happy as my three kids. Great photos on your blog. I started out too wordy and not enough pics in my first blog years ago. Good job.
